Respeecher Joins The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) to Help Democratize Modern Media

It has always been part of our mission at Respeecher to help content creators scale voices for their projects, while respecting strict AI ethics standards. Now, we take our goal one step further: we are happy to announce that Respeecher has joined the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG).

This is an important step both for us as an AI content generator and for the entertainment industry. Current DEG members include Hollywood’s top players like Warner Media, Paramount, NBC Universal, Amazon Studios, Disney, Google, and others.

The group promotes entertainment platforms, products, and distribution channels connecting content, devices, and platforms, and supports studio marketing initiatives to increase awareness of new technologies such as Respeecher’s AI voice cloning technology in the motion picture and television industry.

DEG is also responsible for implementing standards and best practices in the digital supply chain to improve internal and external efficiencies for members. It provides its members with leading-edge knowledge and resources about emerging trends and technologies to prepare for further industry growth.

We will be sharing these insights with you here on the blog, so be sure to subscribe to our newsletter so you don't miss out.

We believe that the creation and use of synthetic media will grow significantly in the near future - meaning media content generated or modified through artificial intelligence (AI).

At Respeecher, we use machine learning to build and enhance our voice cloning technology that creates new speech that's indistinguishable from the original speaker. That simply means that our software replaces one person’s voice with another’s voice through speech-to-speech conversion, for creative purposes.

We work with filmmakers, TV producers, game developers, advertisers, podcasters, and content creators of all types, for various media projects. We help content creators gain more flexibility and full control over their projects, while potentially reducing costs for the resources used per project.

It is also widely discussed that speech synthesis (alongside visual manipulations) can be used for negative purposes if the technology falls into the wrong hands. There are some unfortunate examples of fraud and fake news, where recipients could not tell the difference between what’s real and what’s not.

Therefore, we have established a clear set of ethical principles that guide us in our business. We believe we are responsible for raising awareness and reducing the improper use of deepfake technologies. To this end, we:

  • Educate the public about the capabilities of synthetic speech technology;
  • Develop automatic detection algorithms that can detect synthetic speech even if it has not been watermarked by us;
  • Work with gatekeepers of content to limit the harm of voice cloning

We consider that joining The Digital Entertainment Group is a step forward to help us achieve these goals.

We will work closely with DEG Members to bring voice cloning into the mainstream of film and television production, while educating audiences about the particularities of synthetic media and how to identify deepfake content.
